Cameryn Vonbargen – Pregnancy and Birth Story

Cameryn runs Multitasking Motherhood and is the mother of a sweet little 6-month old named Nolan! She has a psychology degree, is a nursing student, and forever learner. She started my blog about two months ago.

Was your pregnancy planned or a surprise?

Both? My husband and I had been trying for over a year. I was accepted into a nursing program so we decided to take a break. A week after submitting my paperwork and deposit, we found out I was expecting!

If planned, how long did you try to conceive?

A little over a year!

How did you share the news with your partner, family, and friends?

I drove home from work as soon as I found out to tell my husband (who was moving all of our things into a new house)! He was so shocked! We later told both of our families and announced my pregnancy! There were a couple weeks in between sharing the news though! Holding that secret was hard!

Which was your favorite trimester?

Definitely second! Feeling him kick around but also not being completely swollen and exhausted at clinicals for school!

What was your pregnancy MUST HAVE?

I craved apple juice, cheeseburgers, and salad! I was definitely NOT a salad girl before!

Did you find out the gender?

Yes!

Were there any complications throughout your pregnancy?

Nope! I did however develop Chorioamnionitis during labor and almost had to have a C-section because baby was stuck!

Did you go into labor naturally or were you induced?

Naturally.

How long were you in labor?

23 hours! I progressed quickly and then out of nowhere just stopped because he was stuck!

Did you get an epidural or go all natural?

Epidural for sure! Which I ended up being so grateful for because I had body aches anyway due to the infection I had so adding more pain to that (especially labor pain) was a no go for me!

What was the best and worst part about labor and delivery?

Best part was being done and seeing my baby! Worst was definitely the infection. It sort of stole my ability to have a happy birth experience and I struggle with anxiety surrounding having another baby because of it!

Were there any complications with your delivery?

Yes. See above related to infection I developed.

Give us the stats!!

1:37 am, 6 lb 12 ounces, 21 inches, boy!

What was the hardest thing about the first few weeks of motherhood?

Definitely the recovery. My son seriously has been the best baby and so I have never really had issues with him. The recovery though wasn’t hard but a huge nuisance! Weird to say but it was for me!

What is the best advice you received as a new mom?

Not letting others care about the choices you make for your little one! You have to let that go! That baby is YOUR baby. Just because everyone and their grandmother thinks you should do it one way, doesn’t mean you should if it doesn’t work for you and baby!

What is your best advice for expectant or new moms?

The above for sure!

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your journey to motherhood?

It has seriously been the best thing that has happened to me. I feel like I never really knew myself until I became a mother. It is true that there simply is no other love like the love you have for your child.
